I don't remember the pin numbers, but with rs232 you have a "send" line and a "receive" line. Normally your amiga, or your terminal, writes data to one, and the modem writes data to the other. With the terminal connected directly to the computer, both are writing to the "send" line (which no one is reading), and both are reading the "receive" line (which no one is writing to). The null modem swaps the lines in the middle so what one side writes can be read on the other end. -don perley
