Can anyone describe the details of the various XMODEM protocols?

I think I have a clear idea on CRC and checksum basic XMODEM.  But then there
is:
          XMODEM 1K Packets
          XMODEM Ascii Express DOS 3.3
          XMODEM Ascii Express Prodos
          XMODEM Checksum 16-bit
          YMODEM

Can all of these be wrapped up into one "smart" protocol?  (from the sender
side).
