Yes, you can turn your hard disk sideways ...

BUT, I suggest that you back up all your data and reformat the drive from
low-level up because a drive with the tracks formatted horizontally may not
always work properly when turned sideways (especially on old drives).  This
is because of the design of the drives.  The heads of the drive are mounted
from the side ... so when you turn the drive sideways, the heads have a
tendency to slide to one side more.  Whereas sitting horizontally, it won't.
