If the SCSI calls went directly to the SCSI chip bipassing the ROMS, you couldn't get the hard disk to respond but if the SCSI calls went through the ROM routeins, every thing worked fine. Could be this is a similar incomapatbility. I would call the drive manufacturer, tell him what SCSI card you are using and ask if this is a known problem & if yes how to get around it {like returning the drive & getting one from another manufacturer}.
