One could also use one of the several publicly distributible disk
cataloggers, if you wanted a complete listing of a disk directory. I also
think there's one which will sort the directory by folder (aka
subdirectory) on HFS disks.  It certainly seems a more elegant solution
than screen dumps (shudder).

As far as FILE COMPARE is concerned, there are several products which can
diff text files.  And there seems to be a trend on the part of word
processor publishers to supply a facility to diff formatted WP documents,
leave an audit trail of modification dates, etc.
