When I restarted by using the programmer's switch, the Mac would not reboot properly. I get the smiling Mac followed by the rectangle that normally says "Welcome to Macintosh", but before the text appears, the top half of the rectangle shimmers, the system sits for awhile with a blank rectangle with top half shimmering, and then random noise appears on the screen. I was able to restart by booting with a floppy and normal booting occured when I replaced the System file on my hard drive with a backup copy. It looks like my System file got damaged. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong with it and what I might do to correct it? The only changes of note that I lost were some uses of Kolor - no big deal. I saved a copy of the damaged System file in case it could be fixed simply. In case it's relevant, I normally use 256 colors and System 6.0.2. Has any had any problems such as this with SoundMaster 1.2? I downloaded it from SUMEX archives a few days ago. Any advice will be appreciated. I'll be travelling next week and won't be able to follow comp.sys.mac, so please reply by mail.
