The "Welcome to Macintosh" line DOES appear, after which the top part of the rectangle shimmers, the text disappears, and the Mac-II sits there with a blank rectangle. I'm up and running with a backup version of System, so its mainly curiosity that leads me to inquire as to what is wrong with the System file. Thanks, Barry
