As long as the printer isn't powered off, or crashed (remember, there's a computer in there!), and you are all using the same LaserWriter/Laser Prep versions, they don't need Laser Prep. It used to be possible (haven't tried this in years) to have just LaserWriter on a disk - if Laser Prep is needed and can't be found, the Mac will spit out the current system disk and ask for a disk with Laser Prep on it.
