I've, successfully it appears (much to my own surprise) hacked SCO 386-Xenix's dialer program to do a call to an online service and complete a transaction. In the process of doing this, I've discovered ioctl(...) and the XENIX struct termio { } thing containing bit-controls for input, output, control modes, line discipline, etc. Now, my question is, having set the local mode to ECHO, as I though I needed it, why I received a whole string of ^G's back -- screenfuls in fact. I now understand that ECHO should be off and is and the damn thing works, but now I'm just curious about what ECHo really is for. Comments? 2. Do I spoil the surprise or spontenaity when I mail my questions like this? Should I save them for the meeting? Who, in fact, is getting this group? (Sorry, not "group", mailing list?)
