Our group has a 3/86 Compaq with a 24-bit-capable Targa board. We need to 
convert 24-bit images captured with this board and transfer them to a Mac II.
A call to Truvision was not totally helpfull. It seems there are conversion
programs, but they only offer 8-bit capability (e.g., Trutilities).  In
addition, the files containing these convered images need to contain
information (i.e., file type) to permit Mac applications (e.g., ColorPaint II
) to access the files.
