Most readers don't read the letters of a word, they read the entire word in one 'gulp'. Adjusting the space between the letters changes the 'image' of the word, and makes it more difficult to read. [Caveat lector: This is only my opinion. I don't know of any legibility research that contradicts it. Do you? If you do, I'd like to know of it.] Also, altering the letter spacing inside words usually changes the 'colour' of the page, and gives 'grey' spots or bands on the page. This might be unwanted in very high-quality printing. -- Anders Thulin INET : ath@prosys.se ProgramSystem AB UUCP : ...!{uunet,mcvax}!enea!prosys!ath Teknikringen 2A PHONE: +46 (0)13 21 40 40 S-583 30 Linkoping, Sweden FAX : +46 (0)13 21 36 35
