(Possible minor Dungeon Master spoiler)

I just finished Dungeon Master.  (Good thing, too.  I gotta study
for finals.)  But (and this has been bugging me ever since I finished),
I didn't find a key for the lock at the bottom of the long staircase -
the one that's engraved with a rune that looks like an "E".  Does
anybody know what that was for?  Thanks in advance.
