I've had some experiance with UEdit and CED, and overall I prefer CED. 
Uedit is almost 100% user configurable, and if you're looking to clone
vi with some extras, I'd give it some serious consideration.  Some of
the emulations I've seen are quite impressive.
 
I use CED because I have the TxED (ack! ;-) commands implanted in me,  
and because it was available for a demonstration run at the local dealer
whereas UEdit's S/W version was the closest I could get to a demo.
