This is basically how the UNIX signal handling works. Of course, the Amigix signals would match to Amiga sigbits... you just need to define SIGINT as SIGB_CTRLC, SIGQUIT as SIGB_CTRLD, SIGHUP as SIGB_CTRLE, and SIGKILL as SIGB_CTRLF.
