Actually, the maximum volume size for an HFS volume is not 4 gigabytes,
but 256 *terabytes*.  The 4 gigabyte limit is a GS/OS limit, not one of
HFS.  Of course, once we get an HFS FST for GS/OS, we can always use
4 gigabyte partitions :)
