I have read rumours that the apple ][ line is getting dropped (Why?). They say that the apple ][ is not powerful enough for College Students. That is BS as an Engineering Student I have found that my apple is slow and that is the only problem I had so far. Do I want speed ? Do I need simplicity? The answer is yes, but as the average COLLEGE STUDENT I can not afford a Mac. Why is Apple Co. marketing a line of computers to students in college that they can't even afford. Sure there are ways to get loans and discounts (ie. Apple loan to own and the peripheral discount) but these are not enough for the average college student. Here in The State University of New York at Buffalo there are more faculty members (which have nice juicy salaries) than students buying these Macs that are supposed to be at special discount prices for students The suggested retail for an IBM PS/2 model 25 with color monitor, 20 Meg disk drive and the collegiate package is 1300$. What does this has to do with Apple? It is simple to any college students to go with the thought , why buy a system that cost over 3000$ when he can get one for 1300$. Apple computer forgot that there are other costs to college other than a computer (if it fits in the budget.) Tuition goes up, books are expensive , food cost money and housing costs are sky high; which is more important for the college student a night out every now and then or a computer that is as costly as the tuition for one semester. Apple wake up and smell the coffee, college is expensive so is the mac for students. I invite you to go to the dorms of colleges across the nation and see that the computers students buy are those which fit the 1600$ range. Afterwards you can go to the offices of faculty members and see who is buying your macs. Why drop a the ][ line when all you have to do is improve it to suit the needs of college students and that is the need for speed and simplicity.
