A few months ago, I finished development of two operator console products for National Advanced Systems (NAS). The products, which are sold under the name AS/CF (for Advanced Systems/Control Facility), allow an installation to replace the regular operator console with a specially equipped PC-AT class machine. The computer replaces the screen, keyboard, and a lamp/switch panel. We selected pcANYWHERE as the system to allow remote control of the console, permitting an operator at a central facility to operate many remote computers. In my evaluation of pcANYWHERE, I found only a few key combinations which did not work correctly for a 101-key enhanced keyboard. The most serious from our viewpoint were that Ctrl-PrtScrn and Alt-NumKeypad* did not send proper codes. Two other combinations on the numeric pad (which I've forgotten) also failed. The problems were reported to EKD Associates, and may have been fixed by now. (They were quite responsive to earlier deficiency reports, correcting all key code combination errors quickly.) The screen update time of the system seemed the best of the five similar products I tried. (We worked only in character mode, so I can't comment on their graphic modes support.) We were quite happy with the product. -- Michael Shapiro, Gould/General Systems Division 15378 Avenue of Science, San Diego, CA 92128 (619)485-0910 UUCP: ...sdcsvax!ncr-sd!rb-dc1!shapiro
