Never remove any DA from the System under Multifinder.  It seems very
easy to trash the System file this way, and this sounds like what
happened to you.

It's always safest to reboot under UniFinder first.  I run Virus
Detective from a Suitcase file with no problems, so it *is* compatible
with Suitcase.

Here's a paragraph from the well-written manual on Suitcase explaining
how to move DAs out of the System file and into a Suitcase file:

    If Multifinder is on, choose Set Startup from the destop's Special
    menu, press the "Finder" radio button, click OK, and restart the
    Macintosh.  Open Font/DA Mover and click the Desk Accessory radio
    button.  [ then copy the files out, click Remove and quit. ]  [ p. 23]
