The best way is probably to use either DiskTop or DiskTools II (both commercial products, available everywhere). Among other things, they allow you to do a Get Info on any file and change the type, creator, and set various bits. There are also other utilities (Disk Ranger, I think, will do this) that allow you to globally change every instance of a type/creator combo on your disk to something else.
