TeriAnn,
  I got three Mac+ with old ROMs (don't know what they were called) replace with
new ROMs at the end of last year.  All I paid was the labor charge ($40 per
machine).  The old ROMs weren't damage.  Sounds like you should ask another
apple dealer.
