Please advice me on how to print trough troff to an HP laserJet II.

I have a Sun 386i and the HP LaserJet II is connected to the 386i through
serial port 1.  The SNAP recognizes the HP.  I can print to the printer
from DOS window.  I can also lpr a document and the text comes out OK.
But I can not troff a document.

Do I need a different version of troff?  If so, where can I get it from?
Is there a different way of doing this?  Please help.

ps.  Of all the indication from the manuals, there should be a way to troff.
     Any SUN netter out there?
