The program committee will ensure high quality program in each of the two areas of the conference. Prospective contributors are invited to submit either regular or short papers. We solicit both theoretical and applied papers reporting important developments or experience. Proposals for tutorials are also welcome. A keynote speech will be given by Prof. C.A.R. Hoare. Pre-conference tutorials and two panel sessions on parallel architectures and on databases will be offered. An industrial exhibition will be held. Social events and entertainment will be organized for the participants and accompanying persons. The topics include the following categories: parallel and distributed computation and architectures (category 1) special purpose parallel systems (2) distributed systems (3), including fault tolerance (category 3B) and design (3C) technology and applications of supercomputers (4) and fifth generation computers (4B) advanced novel technology and applications (5), including massively parallel systems (5B) database machines (6) development of large databases (7), including semantic modeling (7B) and database design (7C) other topics relevant to the goals of the conference (8) Full-length Papers The authors should submit five copies of the full text of the paper (2500-6000 words including a short abstract) by August 4, 1989. The submission should address the significance of the contribution, and should include comparisons with previous works. In order to permit a blind review, the authors' names, affiliations, mailing addresses and phone numbers should only appear on a cover sheet along with the paper's title, five keywords, and one or more of the aforementioned categories which most closely match the paper's content. On the first page of the paper itself, the title should appear without the authors' names. Submissions not selected as regular papers will automatically be considered as proposals for shorter contributions, unless the authors request otherwise. Shorter Contributions The authors should submit two copies of an abstract of up to 500 words. The abstract should clearly state what is new and what is the significance of the contribution. The abstract should contain the authors' names, affiliations, mailing addresses, and phone numbers, along with the paper's title and one of the aforementioned categories. The abstracts (not full texts) must be received by October 27, 1989. Short papers will be published in a 600-2000 word format. Publications All papers presented at the conference will be published in the Proceedings. Special kits for the preparation of accepted papers for publication will be sent to the authors. Selected papers will be published in the journal of Knowledge and Data Engineering and in the Euromicro journal Microprogramming and Microprocessing. Correspondence Authors from Europe should submit short and regular papers to Dr. Neil Wiseman, Computer Laboratory, University of Cambridge, New Museums Site, Pembroke Street, Cambridge CB2 3QG, telephone 44(0223)334657, E-mail: new1@uk.ac.cam.cl. Tutorial proposals should be mailed to Dr. B. Furht, MODCOMP, 1650 West McMab Rd., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33340, telephone 1(305)974-1380. All the other submissions, and all enquiries should be made to PARBASE-90, School of Computer Science, Florida International University, University Park, Miami, FL 33199, telephone 1(305)554-3429, E-mail: parbase@servax.bitnet. Sponsors and Exhibitors Proposed industrial sponsors and exhibitors are invited to contact the conference organizers. Local Details The conference will be held during March 7 -- 9, 1990 in Miami Beach, Florida (Pre-conference tutorials will be offered on March 6.) Miami Beach and its surrounding areas have numerous tourist attractions, and offer plenty of sun, white-sand beaches, and much more to interest the delegates and, their accompanying persons. The winter is Miami's loveliest season with warm days and pleasant nights.
