The remote side answers with "RLOGIN" rather >than the expected "ROK": One possible problem (we saw this a few months ago) is that the remote site you're talking to doesn't have your system in their USERFILE (or the corresponding HDB (BNU) UUCP file). Your system MUST be in: Their /etc/passwd (i.e. there must be some UUCP login that you can use -- either your own system login, or nuucp, or something) Their L.sys file (your system name MUST appear here, even if they never call you) Their USERFILE (I think that when you appear in the above mentioned files, but not here, you get the "RLOGIN" message from UUCP (which has nothing to do with the BSD "rlogin" program, which allows you to log in to a remote machine via TCP/IP)) You may also need to appear in their L.aliases file, if your hostname is too long for their UUCP to deal with. Note, though, that I've only dealt with (as an admin, at least) BSD UUCP. For System V (HDB/BNU), your mileage may vary. Check the related files for problems, though. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Steve DeJarnett | Smart Mailers -> steve@polyslo.CalPoly.EDU | | Computer Systems Lab | Dumb Mailers -> ..!ucbvax!voder!polyslo!steve | | Cal Poly State Univ. |------------------------------------------------| | San Luis Obispo, CA 93407 | BITNET = Because Idiots Type NETwork | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
