    I compiled the web2c version of tex with gcc -O, and the resulting triptex
    would not pass the TRIP test.

In order to try to fix a bug, I need a complete sample program in the
form of cpp output, plus an indication of which line number was not
properly compiled.   If GCC 1.34 shows the same problem, can anyone
provide me with the necessary information for it?
