  I think you use a little wrong kind of wire.. It SHOULD
always (??) be coaxial cables , when you transfer low-level
signals. Othervise the cable catches all that noise
generated by other devices (60Hz or 50Hz, isn't it!!?).
 
  If shielded cable doesn't work, jump on it!! :-)
