Maybe someone could help me: Why is it that Apollo-made tar tapes on 1/4" cartridges aren't readable by other machines, like Ardent or Sun? I used the following command to write the tape on my 580: % tar cvf /dev/rst8 filename When trying to read the tape on a Sun, I got some "bad header" kind of errors. Is there a way I can make a compatible tar tape, or do I have to ftp the files to a remote machine and then make a tape? (That would be bogus because I've got a couple hundred MegaBytes worth to write). Thanks, Scott Ferguson ferguson@erevax.bitnet
