Thanks a lot to all the people who gave me their recommendations. The answers I got were very diversified. The majority of the word processor users were very happy with Word Perfect. They point out that WP includes a thesausus, a dictionary and some well-thought features. Also, the latest version is said to be bug-free, according to those users. A minor revision was shipped at the beginning of the year. Phone support is great. Just don't use WP with the Atari laser printer. So it seems to be THE word processor for intensive use (Me, I just use emacs and TeX for large documents to get some of the DTP features included in WP. But we are not talking about an easy to use configuration here, folks, TeX is a programming language, but the price is hard to beat -- both packages are PD). Also, I just got First Word Plus version 3.14 (UK). It's good old First Word Plus, but much faster (a 140K document load from my SH 205 in 18 s instead of 34 s for the version 2.02) and it now has keyboard commands for almost all the GEM menu items. The dictionary is very poor, so it cannot be a purchase criterion. The graphics are now GEM .IMG files only and the display is quick. The DTP features are limited to footnotes and page headers. This prog is good for beginners who don't want to learn the huge command set of other, more performant packages, and it's quite cheap (upgrade from v2.02 is 50 sterlings) compared to the $250 Word Perfect.
