The slogan The Network is the System was first used by Digital as the theme
of a DECUS Symposium about 3 years ago.  A few months later another computer
company started using a similar slogan -- and trademarked it to boot! -- 
I *did* manage to maintain my composure, but just barely :-) :-) :-)
