It will work when plugged into the VGA port. I agree the monitors are expensive, but if you want all the capabilities and you are looking to buy any time soon you're going to have to cough up the bucks. PC-MAGAZINE (FEB 24,89 issue I believe) has 11 product reviews for 8514 type monitors. You might look in there for additional information.
