Harari) Organization: Columbia University Lines: 33 Hi. Hopefully, somebody can help me with this. I have a Seagate ST238 w/ an RLL controller on 2 different machines. (That's 2 different drives on two different machines) One is a plain vanilla IBM PC, the other is Leading Edge Model D. Problems: (Leading Edge) After low-level formatting and running of fdisk (under Dos 3.3) I format c:/s. I've noticed that chkdsk does not detect any unusable sectors. The drive works fine for a while (a few hours - a few days) and then I get problems reading the drive... Eventually the machine won't boot (I get the error of "missng command.com", or come such animal) Sometimes, if I let the machine sit a while, the drive works fine, only to crash again a little while later. The drive is about a year old. (IBM PC) The problem is similar to that of the LE - D. I have a brand new drive in an old PC.... Like the Model D, chkdsk finds no bad sectors. (DOS 3.3) What the hell is going on, and how can I solve it? Please e-mail me the response, and I will post summary. Thanx in advance, steven@cunixc.cc.columbia.edu
