I say break, because it didn't just crash, it now can no longer be re-initialized. Last time, they replaced the drive and the controller card. This time, the problem appears to be the controller card, although it remains to be seen. The darn thing broke 5 days before the 1 year warranty was to expire, so at least it won't cost me to repair. I asked for my money back instead of a repair, but they said that it was "impossible." Ha. I intend to write a letter to them expressing my disappoinment. Ha again. After hearing so many good things here about LaCie, I figured that my first breakdown was a fluke. Now I wonder about their quality control. Suffice it to say that if I had to choose again, I might get a Jasmine or something. I should remark, I guess, that they've been awfully nice about the warranty service. It's just a big pain to have your disk crashing every month, if you know what I mean. Don't forget to back up your data..... Nobody's safe out there. Joe Hellerstein
