It was an April Fools joke.  

"Shipping April first"?  Did you read the description of the tv
commercial?  Would IBM *ever* have the guts to run such an imaginative
spot?  Wasn't the the features list just a *little* out of line with
the price?  Where is all the rest of the publicity for such an
important product?  

If you fell for this one, you'd better stop reading USENET for a few
weeks.  This isn't the last one you will fall for.
