In the most recent addition to their catalog, I was surprised to discover my game Theldrow in it. Now, as an opening screen it says that this software is copyrighted. In the online help is the details of the licensing, which basically states that you can not charge and make money to distribute it - which is exactly what they do. And they can't say that they never ran it, since there was a screen snapshot in there. So it seems that they can't read (I set up the copyright specifically with people like this in mind). Needless to say, I called them up. "Didn't we ask you permission to use your software? Oh, we usually try to." I had them pull it from their disks (the manager made is sound like this is a not uncommon occurance). Makes you wonder about "EDUCOMP warrents that disks contain the listed items". They also listed it as shareware (which it isn't), so comparing it to "commercial games costing many times more" doesn't mean much (unless they mean how much is is costing you to get it from THEM). (BTW, I should be posting version 2.2 this weekend, but alas, I haven't finished the second scenario, and I'll post that separately when I do) >and dedicate their income to non-profit purposes, and fill disks "to the >brim", and thoroughly check for updates and virii and system SW compatability? > >And why not just FTP the files from any of the numerous Mac archives out >there? > > -- Raines Cohen > SYSOP, BMUG BBS > >-- >INTERNET: bmug!User.Name@apple.COM UUCP: apple!bmug!User.Name =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= = "Whether you like it, or don't like it, sit | - gandreas@ub.d.umn.edu - = = back and take a look at it, because it's the | Glenn Andreas = = best going today!
