A mac owner in the dorm had both serial ports fail recently, while logged onto a remote mainframe via versaterm. No printer or modem software will work, and so I surmise that the serial ports are dusted. Is this like the abd-fuse problem? Nothing was being plugged or unplugged at the time of failure, and I can't see nay reason to call it an operator error. The local Apple mechanics want to replace the whole motherboard, but that seems a bit extreme. Anyone know a simpler fix? Thanks, tad. -- W "Rident Stolidi Verba Latina" S I e-mail and random flames to: T B mblakele@jarthur.claremont.edu or uunet!muddcs!jarthur!mblakele R West is Best, But Fire is Better
