I use a 386i/250 in my daily work. At first, I cursed the graphics, then
we upgraded os to 4.0.1. It really helped. I still think  that 386i s/w or
basic architecture put a basic limit on the performance, but it is
acceptable. For excellent performance, you'll have to look for graphics
accelerators in the (hopefully near) future.
