Common TeX is a hand translation into C by Pat Monardo. CTeX can be easily upgraded to the current version (2.98) by replacing the WEB file and re-running the WEB2C utility. This cannot be done with Common TeX. Common TeX can be compiled under MS-Dos with Microsoft C. I don't think anybody has done this with CTeX. -dh
