I have been trying to get Latex to print the German
"es-zet" using the command \ss  I keep getting an error
message to the effect that this command sequence is not
defined, and yet it is listed as a valid command in both
the Latex book by Lamport and in the Texbook.  Has anyone
else experienced this problem, and is there a way around
it?
