This annoys large numbers of readers. The right method is to append "-request" to the list name and send your request there. This is a general net convention; whenever you want to get off of a mailing list "foo@host" (or be added to it), send your request to "foo-request@host" rather than to "foo@host". Always try this first; if it fails, then as a last resort try sending to the list itself. You will be glad other people follow this rule for the lists you are on.
