I've been using emacs for a number of years, but I still consider myself
a novice when it comes to programming and customizing the package. Can
anyone recommend some literature, books, magazine articles, etc. that 
can provide me with information on how to get beyond the level of 
expertise I currently have. Up till now I've been at the mercy of others,
and quite frankly, I need to be more independent.

Any advice anyone has to offer will be greatly appreciated.
