Yes, it's been done by several outfits as a way of getting access to cheap peripherals. The PC buses are ugly and slow but not all that difficult to talk to. I take second place to nobody in my loathing for 80i86 processors, but there are a *lot* of cheap peripherals for PC-bus machines.
