Why can't NFS support access for remote devices? I don't see why it would be that different to accessing a remote ordinary file, after all the server's open, close, read and write calls are still used by the NFS Protocol server to supply the info for the remote client so why should the server care if it is getting information from a device or from a file it just gets the info and per usual (via the Unix system calls) and passes it on to the NFS protocol server who answers the request from the client. I don't see why allowing access to remote devices would impact upon the statelessness of NFS either. Thanx for any help I have obviously missed something can you please help. Craig Farrell Please feel free to mail your reply to me as I may post this to several news groups and I see no reason for my ignorance should fill up lots newsgroups with flames etc. about how dumb I am and how obvious the reason is. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ___ _ ____ _ ___ / \__/ \__/ \__/ \_/ \ | |O O | \ _| __ / \_______/ | | \_______/ / _/ __/ _/ /) (o _/ \ / Hey Rocky watch me pull a rabbit from my hat! \__/ From: Craig Farrell Organisation: Curtin University West Australia.
