I still prefer the Atari mouse. I have long Wow! I've never used a PC mouse, and now I don't think I ever want to. I have used a lot of other mice, on workstations of various sorts, and for me the Atari mouse is the *worst* I have ever used. The *best* I've used was on an obscure workstation made by Whitechapel in the UK. It's shaped almost like half a tennis ball, with three "buttons" just exactly where your fingertips fall. It's extremely comfortable to use for long periods of time, and the click gives just the right amount of feedback without requiring a strong finger. Next best is the Xerox optical mouse. The shape isn't so good, but it's very light, moves very easily, and has really excellent click characteristics - lighweight microswitches. And because it's optical, there's no ball to get all gummed up. But optical isn't always good. The Sun mouse is optical, but it's awful - it's "directional" in the sense that you have to have the pad the right way up and the mouse parallel to the sides of it for it to work at all. Weird. It's just a pity that, with so many mice around, so few of them are interchangeable. Then I'd be able to use the same kind of mouse on all the machines I use. Sigh. One day, maybe...
