I had 4 spare 256K SIMMs that came out of a Mac II, and the Softstep IV upgrade has no memory on it; you combine the existing Mac Plus or SE SIMMs with the extra SIMMs to come up with a total of 2 Megs. The kit consists of 4 boards with that accept 2 256K SIMMs each and plug back into the Mac's memory slots. Installation was fairly easy--getting the power plug off the Mac's motherboard was the hardest part--and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I was fearful about heat and the power supply--the machine began life as a 512K unenhanced Fat Mac--so I also installed a muffin fan behind the handle. Everything seems just fine, and it sure is nice to have multifinder on my "little" machine. -- Charlie Neil (chn@lanl.gov) Los Alamos National Laboratory (505) 665-0978
