Yup, There is a program called mcvert written by Doug Moore of Cornell that does what you want and much much more. In my opinion, this is the best mac <-> unix utility out there. I've tried sending the source code to comp.sources.mac, but so far the moderator hasn't posted it. E-mail to me if anyone is interested.
