If I recall, I had a similar problem long ago with Word 3.01 (I now
have 3.02).  Anyway, what I decided was happening was that word was 
trying to write files out to disk, so if I was using a disk which was
almost full, I would get a "not enuf memory" type error.  When I used
a disk with at least 20K free, the problem went away... hope this
