Keywords: locked in a ward for bulemics Message-ID: <4041@stiatl.UUCP> Date: 4 Apr 89 21:24:07 GMT Organization: Sales Technologies Inc., a Dun & Bradstreet Company Lines: 34 This is an apology (of sorts) regarding the PDWL (Public Domain Widget Library) state. Sales Technologies was acquired earlier this year by Dun & Bradstreet. I am not sure of the details, but somewhere between the lawyers for ST and those for Dun & Bradstreet, major trade secret/copyright fear has set in. Until we can resolve this, we are not permitted to make any of our code public. Naturally, this is a very distressing situation for me. Currently, there is only 1 entry in any of the libraries that is not from Sales Technologies. While I have left our widgets in the directory, I really have no idea how long it will be before we may ship them. I have known of this for a couple of months; I have been hoping it would be quickly resolved, but it has not. In the meantime, while much interest has been expressed in the library, only 1 item has come in to be tested or put in the library. The PDWL will not work without your input! Meanwhile, a bug in the shell scripts has caused at least 6 or 7 people not to receive the responses I sent out, while trashing the copies I keep of outgoing mail, so I'm not sure who you were. If you have requested something, please re-request it. I apologize for the fact that I have not brought this up quicker; as I said, I kept hoping it would be resolved quicker. We are pushing as hard and fast as we can. In the meantime, I am going to work on a couple of widgets on my own time, which I will publish to the net and through the PDWL. Finally, if you are in a similar situation, let me know through email; perhaps we can work together on this. -Miles O'Neal (gatech!stiatl!meo)
