Lines: 36 My thanks to those people who responded to my request for information about CAD/CAM products running on top of commercial databases. I've gotten enough direct inquiries on what information I received that I've decided to post a summary to the network. More than one person told me that CAD/CAM developers consider commercially available DBMSs to be inadequate for the needs of CAD/CAM applications. However, people also told me the following: - Cbase 1.0 from the University of Southern California uses VBase as its database; there's an article about it in Proceedings of the IEEE International Conference on CAD 1988, pp. 392-395. VBase is produced by Ontologic. Ontologic Inc. 47 Manning Road Billerica MA, 01821 (508) 667-2383 - The CAD Framework Initiative might be addressing the issue of standardized CAD/CAM data storage.
