This works most of the time. If it didn't work you'll just get a fast busy signal. I'm not sure if this works for all phones in New York State, even though all phone service is handled by New York Telephone. This a good for those times when you aren't sure about the accuracy of the number listed on the pay phone. I'm not sure if this works on "third party" pay phone, i.e. those pay phones not maintained by New York Telephone. /k Kenneth H.
