We are running Gnu Emacs distribution 18.51 on Sun386i's under SunOS 4.0.1.   It appears that with emacstool installed, regions are highlighted by merely bouncing the cursor between mark and point (the culprit appears to be the function indicate-region, defined in sun-fns.el).  I would like to allow regions to be highlighted in a user-specified manner, (possibly via a minor mode indicating inverse video, underlining, etc., as in zmacs).

I am therefore interested in pointers to (or copies of) existing implementations of this or something similar.  Otherwise, I would be grateful for suggestions on how it can be most easily done.
