A minor nit-pick would be that periods are only supposed to go at the end of complete sentences, not at the ends of phrases. I guess you could argue that most of the status messages have implied subjects or verbs. The only reason it's noticeable is that 1) it's different, and 2) it makes the status messages which are enclosed in square braces asymmetrical in appearance, which is distracting to eye.
